Salisbury Green Party is calling on Wiltshire Council to swiftly implement the recommendations made in a recent Government publication which states that “Local authorities in areas with high levels of public transport use should take measures to reallocate road space to people walking and cycling, both to encourage active travel and to enable social distancing during restart”.
Some of the measures that should be considered for Salisbury include :
– Closing narrow roads like Fisherton St and Catherine St to all motorised traffic except buses, deliveries, blue badge holders and taxis
– closing parking bays on narrow streets to give pedestrians more space to step into the road
– installing temporary traffic lights or cone off carriageways, e.g. on Crane Bridge Street
– a blanket 20mph speed limit for the entire City, including A roads, to increase cyclists’ safety
